Hey everybody, how are you doing? Dr. Portalupi here from Portalupi Orthodontics in Woodland, California. Today I’m going to talk to you today about these really cool brackets that we use in our braces treatment. They are made by a German company called FORESTADENT.
Now you may have heard about something that used to be thought of as being kind of cool. And those are the little colored ties that go around the bracket, which would allow patients to personalize their braces. The problem is, it’s also not so cool.
What’s not cool about it is that those colored ties collect all kinds of plaque, leave stains on your teeth, can cause cavities, and make it really hard to brush your teeth. They also actually slow down the movement of your teeth and you have to come in more often because the colors fade, the ties break down, and they don’t hold the archwire properly anymore.
Instead of ties that can wear out or break, these advanced FORESTADENT brackets have a clip that holds the wire much more smoothly and the teeth move a little bit more quickly and a little bit more gently. That means a faster and more comfortable orthodontic experience for you!
So colored elastics, old school – clips, new school.
